Custom software development for UK businesses
We design and build custom software around the way your organisation actually works: bespoke systems, operational tools and platforms that need to be reliable, maintainable and still making sense in five years’ time.
- 17 years building business-critical software
- Senior only no account layer, no junior handover
- Fixed cost agreed up front, not discovered later
When off-the-shelf software stops fitting
Most organisations do not set out to commission custom software. They buy a product that covers much of the job, build a spreadsheet for the rest and add a manual process to hold the two together. That arrangement can work until the volume grows or the person who understood it leaves.
Bespoke software development is worth the investment when the way you work is a genuine advantage, when the cost of the workaround has quietly overtaken the cost of the system, or when the thing you need simply does not exist as a product you can buy.
We are a UK custom software development company working mainly with established organisations that do not have an in-house development team: attractions, education, membership bodies, hospitality and businesses with operations too specific for a generic platform.
If a product off the shelf would genuinely serve you better, we will say so before recommending any build.
What we build
Our work can cover discovery, architecture, interface design, development, deployment and ongoing support.
Operational platforms
Systems that run a core part of the business day to day, built to handle real volume and real edge cases.
Booking and ticketing
Timed entry, capacity, memberships and annual passes, including the commercial features platforms will not stretch to.
Internal tools and dashboards
Scattered information brought into one place the team can trust, with reporting available without a recurring manual exercise.
Customer-facing applications
Portals, accounts and member areas where the experience is part of the product, not an afterthought.
APIs and integrations
Connecting the systems you already pay for, so data moves between them without anyone rekeying it.
Legacy replacement
Replacing systems nobody dares touch, in phases, with the data migrated and the business still running.
Common delivery risks, and how we reduce them
- A detailed specification fixed before anyone has used an early version
- Different people scoping and delivering the work without a clear handover
- Estimates treated as commitments after the underlying assumptions change
- Documentation left until the end of the project
- No clear owner for support and improvement after launch
- Phases you can see and use, so the shape is confirmed early
- The people who scoped it are the people who build it
- Scope and cost revisited openly as we learn
- Documentation written as the work happens
- A monthly plan and a named person after launch

How much does custom software development cost?
It depends on what the software has to do, how many systems it has to talk to and how much of the process is settled before we start. A focused internal tool is a very different proposition from a booking platform handling payments and capacity across multiple venues.
As a guide, a focused MVP typically starts from £2,000, a custom booking system from around £8,000, and the larger systems we have scoped run to £30,000 and beyond. All figures exclude VAT.
The published figures show where a project may start. Once we understand what the software has to do we give you a fixed cost, so the number you agree is the number you pay.
How long does a project take?
A focused MVP can be ready in three to four weeks. A larger system runs to a number of months, and where a project lands depends on the same thing the cost does, which is what the software actually has to do.
Where a date matters we can split the work into phases, so something useful is live earlier and the rest follows behind it. In both cases, you agree the timeline before work begins and can see how each phase contributes to the release.
Who owns the code?
You do. The code, the repositories and the documentation belong to you, and nothing is held inside a proprietary platform you cannot leave. We build so that another competent developer could take over if they ever needed to.
Can you take over an existing application?
Often, yes. We start by reviewing what is there, what state it is in and what it would take to make it maintainable. Sometimes most of it is worth keeping, while rebuilding one part can reduce risk and longer-term cost. We will explain which route the evidence supports.
What happens after launch?
Most clients stay with us on a monthly plan covering maintenance, monitoring and a regular share of development time. This gives the system regular improvements and prevents maintenance from being deferred until it becomes urgent. See software maintenance and support.
